Frank Gashumba, a prominent motivational speaker and political commentator, has stated that his wife, Patience Malaika, is experiencing anxiety due to the strong reactions from religious leaders concerning his public challenge about miracle claims.

Speaking on Radio 4, Gashumba described some pastors as “crooks” and “thugs,” asserting that he will not be intimidated into retracting his statements. He acknowledged that his wife expressed worry about the situation.

However, Gashumba reassured Malaika that his public advocacy on issues he deems significant is an integral part of his life. “Don’t you know that you married in a literal struggle? This is what I do every day. We have an obligation and a duty to correct the nation,” he reportedly told her.

The controversy ignited when Gashumba challenged pastors, prophets, and apostles who claim to perform miracles. He initially offered 200 million Ugandan shillings, later increasing it to 500 million, to any religious leader who could heal a critically ill patient under verifiable public conditions.

This challenge has sparked widespread debate among religious figures and the public about the legitimacy of miraculous healing claims and whether they should be subjected to public scrutiny and testing.

Gashumba also disclosed that he has cautioned his wife against attending Pentecostal churches, making his personal views on certain religious institutions clear. His statements have broadened the dispute, moving beyond the core issue of miracle claims to encompass his broader critique of religious institutions and their societal influence.
