Four-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Adjumani Maize Garden After Disappearing in Downpour

Tragedy has struck the community of Mokolo East Village in Adjumani District, where a four-year-old girl, Emmily Juru, was found dead in a maize garden. The discovery on Monday morning followed her disappearance from her home on Sunday evening amidst a severe downpour.

Emmily’s father, Samuel Mule, reported that his daughter went missing between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Sunday. A frantic search by family and neighbours continued late into the night without success, leaving the family devastated by the subsequent discovery.

Simon Jurugo Drikota, the LC1 chairperson of Mokolo East Village, confirmed that a local resident found the body around 6:39 am. He expressed deep concern, noting that this is the third such tragic incident in the area within the past year, and urged community members to be more vigilant in safeguarding their children.

Police have launched a murder investigation, cordoning off the scene and utilizing a sniffer dog to aid their inquiries. Detective Dominic Iranya Koma stated that law enforcement is working to uncover the circumstances surrounding Emmily’s death. “It is a very painful incident for everyone, but we want to establish the truth,” he said.

One individual has been taken in for questioning, and police plan to record statements from several immediate neighbours. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. The police emphasized that the person questioned is assisting with the investigation and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate by providing any relevant information, warning against vigilantism.
