Tragedy struck in Yumbe District on Friday evening when two motorcycle riders lost their lives in a severe head-on collision. The incident occurred around 5 pm in Chicana Village, Piajo Parish, Aria Sub-county.
Police have identified the deceased as 18-year-old Asibuku Swali, a resident of Achianaku Village, and 22-year-old Imani Mudafiri, from Rigbonga Parish. Swali was reportedly riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UFR 090D), while Mudafiri was on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle.
According to North West Nile regional police spokesperson Collins Asea, both riders were traveling at excessive speeds in opposite directions on a sharp bend. “One of the riders, Asibuku Swali, died at the scene, while Imani Mudafiri died upon arrival at Barakala Health Centre III,” Mr. Asea stated.
The bodies were released to the families for burial after they opted out of post-mortem examinations. The police have taken possession of the damaged motorcycles for inspection. While unconfirmed reports suggest two other individuals may have survived and left the scene, their identities and the exact circumstances remain under official investigation by Yumbe Traffic Police.
