Anita Among's X Account Mysteriously Rebranded, Posts Vanish

The prominent X account associated with Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, has mysteriously vanished and reappeared under a new identity. The handle, previously @AnitahAmong, has reportedly been changed to @GlobalAfricaHQ.

Further complicating the situation, all previous posts from the account appear to have been wiped clean. As of Sunday morning, accessing the profile displayed an “Unable to load” message, fueling concerns about the account’s integrity.

This account was frequently used by Speaker Among to disseminate parliamentary news, official statements, and communicate with her constituents. A snapshot from earlier indicated a substantial following of over 613,000 users, identifying her as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament and the Woman MP for Bukedea District.

The abrupt transformation has led to widespread speculation that the account may have been compromised or hijacked. However, there has been no official statement from Among’s office or any other source to confirm whether the account was hacked, intentionally transferred, or deliberately rebranded.

In contrast, Among’s Instagram account remains active and accessible. Her most recent post on that platform, dated May 12, was a congratulatory message to President Yoweri Museveni on his inauguration.

The exact reasons behind the sudden and significant changes to her X account remain unknown at this time.
