Tragedy struck Kitenga sub-county in Mubende District early Saturday morning as unknown assailants killed a couple, Ivan Sserwanja, 29, and his 26-year-old pregnant wife, Rose Nakalanzi. Their bodies were discovered in their Lukaya Village home with severe cut wounds, according to Wamala Region police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi. A neighbor’s child alerted authorities after finding the home’s door ajar and receiving no response.
Investigators at the scene recovered a bloodstained hoe and suspect the motive may have been robbery, as the couple, who were coffee traders, had their motorcycle and two mobile phones stolen. Police believe the attackers may have gained entry through an unsecured door, as there were no signs of forced entry at the residence.
In separate incidents within the same village, two other residents were attacked and injured. Sophia Nalukenge, 40, was struck on the head with a blunt object by an assailant who fled with several mobile phones. Additionally, in Kayanja Village, a couple, Onesmus Tumwebaze and Agatha Kukundakwe, were severely injured during a home invasion where their phones were stolen at knifepoint.
Despite heavy rains hampering initial search efforts, police have reportedly obtained leads and are actively pursuing suspects. Community policing initiatives have been implemented in the affected areas. No arrests have been made at this time.
