Ikafe Police Training School, located in Yumbe District, has received a significant boost to its training capabilities with a donation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment valued at Shs 30 million from Stanbic Bank Uganda. This contribution is set to strengthen the school’s capacity to train police recruits in essential digital skills, preparing them for the demands of technology-driven policing.

The donation comprises vital equipment such as computers and television sets, which will directly enhance the institution’s ability to impart knowledge in digital systems, effective information management, and the application of technology in contemporary security operations.

Senior Superintendent of Police James Okabo Okello, heading the Ikafe Police Training School, expressed gratitude, noting that the support would bolster the school’s institutional capacity and its overall training mandate. He highlighted the strategic importance of the school’s location in a border district adjacent to South Sudan, emphasizing the critical role of effective policing in maintaining regional security, facilitating cross-border trade, and supporting economic activities.

“This training school has future prospects beyond what we are seeing today,” Okabo stated, adding that the institution has already trained over 1,000 individuals and currently employs more than 150 trainers. The school is continuously working to expand its capacity for training, alongside improving the welfare of its recruits and staff.

Damoni Kitabire, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Stanbic Bank Uganda, remarked on the increasing importance of technology in policing. “Modern policing is increasingly driven by technology. Officers serving in this region require the digital skills and tools needed to respond effectively to today’s evolving security challenges,” Kitabire said.

The initiative was driven by Stanbic Bank’s employee-led community projects, where staff contribute to impactful community development. Rita Apell, Chief Information Officer at Stanbic Bank Uganda, elaborated on this, stating, “This has been an employee-led initiative, and our IT team came together and contributed funds to procure the equipment. It has truly been about teamwork.”

The new ICT equipment is expected to significantly enhance the quality of ICT instruction at the school, equipping future police officers with the digital competencies necessary for effective service in an increasingly technology-dependent security landscape.
