Museveni Lauds Uganda-Russia Military Ties

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded the deep-rooted military cooperation and friendship between Uganda and Russia. He described the relationship as historic, tracing its origins back to the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

During a meeting with a Russian delegation led by Maj. Gen. Sergei Marchuk at State House, Entebbe, President Museveni expressed his gratitude for Russia’s consistent support to the UPDF. He specifically mentioned military projects and facilities in Magamaga, Entebbe, Kalangala, and Karama that have bolstered Uganda’s defence capabilities.

“Thank you for your military support in Magamaga, Entebbe, Kalangala, and Karama,” President Museveni stated, adding that he would formally convey his appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Maj. Gen. Marchuk affirmed Russia’s continued support for Uganda since its independence. He noted that his delegation had successfully completed military infrastructure projects as promised during a previous meeting. These included an arms and equipment park in Magamaga, a watercraft maintenance centre and rapid response unit station in Entebbe, enhanced security equipment at the Marines pier in Port Alice, and a multimedia classroom at the Mechanised Warfare College in Karama.

Looking forward, Maj. Gen. Marchuk proposed extending Russian language training for Ugandan military personnel, with a supplementary agreement for five years. President Museveni welcomed this initiative, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the long-standing bilateral relationship.
