Nakivubo Settlement Primary School is slated for closure as the government pivots to establish a new Skills Training Centre on its premises. The decision, confirmed by Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, follows an assessment of the school’s deteriorating condition and inadequate space.
Minister Kabanda, responding to a directive from President Yoweri Museveni for clarification on the school’s future, visited both Nakivubo Settlement and Nakivubo Blue Primary Schools. She noted that Nakivubo Settlement’s current state is unsatisfactory for providing a conducive learning environment.
Consequently, all 160 pupils from Nakivubo Settlement Primary School will be integrated into Nakivubo Blue Primary School at the commencement of the next academic year. While Nakivubo Blue is undergoing renovations and a new three-storey classroom block, its administration highlighted ongoing infrastructure needs, including a perimeter wall.
The transition also involves addressing a land dispute concerning businessman Festo Kasajja, who reportedly claims development rights on a portion of the school land based on 1990s agreements. The matter remains before the courts for resolution.
