Senior Presidential Advisor Abdul Nadduli, a veteran of the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation war, has voiced strong opinions regarding Uganda’s political trajectory. At 83, Nadduli believes the nation, 64 years post-independence and decades after the 1995 Constitution, has experienced enough political turmoil to understand that true progress lies in upholding constitutional principles.

Nadduli expressed his discomfort with the escalating discussions surrounding political succession beyond the upcoming January 2026 elections. He argues that placing faith in individual personalities or ever-changing political configurations is a recipe for instability. Instead, he champions a steadfast commitment to the rule of law as enshrined in the Constitution.

The veteran politician’s stance underscores a sentiment that constitutionalism provides a more enduring framework for governance than the influence of any single leader. This perspective comes as Uganda navigates its political future, with many voices contributing to the ongoing discourse on leadership and governance.

Nadduli’s reflections serve as a reminder of the foundational importance of constitutional governance in fostering a stable and predictable environment for national development. The emphasis on constitutionalism aims to ensure that the nation’s future is built on a solid legal foundation, offering a clear path forward for generations to come.
