President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to actively use and multiply their God-given talents, stating that this diligent approach is not only a personal responsibility but also a fundamental aspect of nation-building.
Speaking at the 28th Uganda National Prayer Breakfast, held under the theme “Wake Up, Work Hard, Build Uganda,” the President highlighted the alignment between this call to action and biblical principles. He referenced the parable of the talents, where a master rewards servants who increase what was entrusted to them, contrasting this with those who failed to act.
Museveni also reflected on the origins of the prayer breakfast tradition, noting its role in fostering dialogue and unity, particularly during times of conflict. He recalled his early experiences as a student leader in the 1960s, opposing sectarian politics based on tribe and religion.
“When God created man, He created him in His own image. So, when you hate anybody because of a tribe or religion, you are hating a product of God,” he stated, underscoring the importance of unity and respect.
The First Lady, Mama Janet Museveni, offered a testimony of thanksgiving, praising God for the nation’s preservation, her own recovery from illness, and the country’s achievements, including the handling of the Ebola outbreak and the progress in the oil and gas sector.
Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth, commended the President for continuing the tradition of hosting the prayer breakfast at State House and acknowledged the timely theme for the nation’s ongoing development efforts.
The event, which preceded Uganda’s 64th Independence anniversary, included prayers for various sectors of national life, from families and the economy to national peace and regional stability. A keynote address was delivered by H.E. Eduard Heger, former Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic.
