Uganda is preparing to celebrate its 64th Independence Day on October 9, 2026, with a special ceremony at State House Entebbe. A key highlight of the event will be the conferment of national honors upon distinguished individuals, including President Yoweri Museveni.
President Museveni is slated to receive the Order of the Commander-in-Chief (Uganda Prisons Service Medal). This significant award is traditionally bestowed upon heads of state and government who exhibit exceptional leadership and have made substantial contributions to peace and security, not only within Uganda but also across the East African region and the African continent.
Hajjat Zamina Malole, Chancellor of the Presidential Awards Committee, confirmed the lineup of medalists. She explained that the award to President Museveni is in recognition of his long-standing leadership and dedication to safeguarding national peace and security. The decision to confer this honor is in accordance with Uganda’s National Honours and Awards Act of 2001, as amended.
The presentation of this medal is expected to be a central moment of the anniversary celebrations, underscoring the importance of leadership in national development and security. A total of 20 individuals will be recognized for their various contributions to the nation during the event.
This recognition comes as the nation reflects on its journey since gaining independence 64 years ago, acknowledging the roles of its leaders in shaping its present and future.
