Students at Makerere University’s Jinja Campus are facing a critical academic crisis as a significant lecturer shortage threatens their ability to prepare for upcoming examinations. The students, who are reportedly paying approximately Shs2.5 million in tuition per semester, expressed frustration that crucial course units are not being taught due to the absence of faculty.
This issue, which first surfaced last semester, has reportedly worsened in the current academic term. With final exams looming in approximately four weeks, students are concerned about the impact on their academic progression and the value of their education.
According to reports, the students organized a demonstration through Jinja City on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to voice their grievances. Their demands include the immediate deployment of more lecturers and improvements to essential learning facilities at the campus.
The situation highlights a growing concern regarding the adequacy of academic resources and staffing at Makerere University’s satellite campuses, potentially affecting the quality of education offered to students outside the main campus.
