Kenya’s tourism sector is implementing enhanced safety measures and vigilance following a reported case of Ebola entering the country. Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, stated that the Ministry of Health is actively managing the situation and that precautionary protocols are in place to protect tourists. She emphasized that Kenya remains a safe destination, citing the country’s dedicated Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre.
During the 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo in Nairobi, Uganda’s State Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, called for greater cooperation among East African nations. She stressed the importance of joint marketing initiatives rather than destination rivalry, highlighting Kenya as a crucial source market for Uganda’s tourism industry. “As Uganda, we are not competition for Kenya, but we are forever allies,” Nakawuki stated, noting the significant number of Kenyan attendees at Ugandan cultural events like Nyege Nyege.
Both nations are actively diversifying their tourism offerings. Kenya aims to expand beyond traditional safari and beach experiences into areas like MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), sports, and cultural tourism. Kenya recorded 2.7 million international visitors last year and is targeting 5.5 million by 2028. The expo, themed “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” also underscored the growing role of technology in enhancing destination competitiveness and improving traveler experiences.
This year’s Magical Kenya Travel Expo brought together over 10,000 delegates, 400 exhibitors, and 250 international travel buyers from more than 40 countries. The event concluded on October 8.
