A tragic incident at Bright Way Secondary School in Kassanda district has led to the arrest of a canteen attendant, identified as Resty Namutebi. Namutebi is accused of causing the death of Ronald Ssemiyingo, a 20-year-old Senior Three student.

The altercation reportedly occurred on Monday, October 5. According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, Namutebi was involved in a dispute with another student. During this confrontation, she allegedly threw a stone, which missed its intended target and struck Ssemiyingo in the head.

Ssemiyingo, who was not directly involved in the initial dispute, sustained severe head injuries. He received first aid at the school before being transported to Red Rose Hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The police were notified on Wednesday, October 7, and an investigation was promptly launched, culminating in Namutebi’s arrest. A murder inquiry has been opened, and investigators are working to reconstruct the events, determine the escalation of the confrontation, and clarify the exact circumstances under which Ssemiyingo was hit.

This incident follows a similar event in June 2026, where a Senior Four student was allegedly beaten to death by a teacher at New Life Secondary School in Luweero district. The teacher in that case, Abraham Mukalazi, remains at large.
