Buganda Kingdom has highlighted the critical need for greater support and improved livelihoods for persons with disabilities within the Kyaggwe county. This call to action was made during a recent event that also marked the inauguration of new leadership for the disability community across Kyaggwe’s sub-counties.

Wilberforce Galiwango Ddiba has taken the helm as the new chairperson for persons with disabilities in the region. Addressing the assembled group, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Environment, Water and Human Development, Hajjat Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, stressed the importance of unity among the newly elected leadership. She urged them to work closely with the county leadership to effectively channel necessary support and services to individuals with disabilities.

Minister Nkalubo extended her appeal to leaders within the central government, imploring them to enact and enforce laws and policies specifically designed to empower persons with disabilities. Such legislation, she noted, is crucial for enhancing their overall well-being and improving their economic standing.

Echoing the call for empowerment, the Deputy County Chief of Kyaggwe, Moses Ssenyonjo, pledged the county’s commitment to assisting persons with disabilities. He specifically mentioned supporting initiatives aimed at fostering self-reliance through income-generating ventures. These include activities such as coffee farming, livestock rearing, and other entrepreneurial endeavors that can lead to economic independence.

This collective push from Buganda Kingdom officials signals a renewed focus on ensuring that persons with disabilities in Kyaggwe have the resources and opportunities to thrive. The emphasis on leadership unity and governmental policy underscores a multi-pronged approach to addressing the challenges faced by this community.
