Tragic Accident in Kabwohe: Truck Collision Claims Three Lives

Tragedy struck Kabwohe Town on Tuesday evening when an Isuzu truck, traveling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara, lost control and caused a horrific crash. The incident occurred around 7:20 PM.

According to traffic police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the truck driver lost control while navigating Kabwohe and tragically struck two pedestrians, who were pronounced dead at the scene. The out-of-control vehicle then careened into seven other motor vehicles and a motorcycle parked along the roadside before colliding with a building.

“Among the three people confirmed dead is the driver of the truck,” Kananura stated. The vehicles involved in the collision included a Toyota Raum, two Toyota Sientas, a Toyota Wish, a Range Rover, a Toyota Premio, and a UG Boss, along with a motorcycle.

The truck was reportedly carrying a load of palm oil, and the impact caused significant damage to all the vehicles involved. The two individuals who sustained injuries were promptly transported to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for medical treatment.

“The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the same facility’s mortuary for postmortem as investigations into the crash commence,” Kananura added. Police are actively investigating the exact circumstances that led to the truck driver losing control.

In light of this incident, Kananura issued a stern warning to motorists about the dangers of speeding, especially when approaching populated areas. “We urge motorists to always reduce their speed when approaching busy places. Excessive speed reduces the time available for a driver to perceive hazards, react and bring the vehicle to a safe stop,” he advised.
