Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire has been reappointed as the interim Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom by King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, tasked with a critical six-month mandate to steer the kingdom towards progress. The appointment, made on Monday, comes with a clear directive to demonstrate measurable advancements on the kingdom’s ongoing development initiatives.

Following his reappointment, Rwomiire addressed journalists at Karuziika Palace, unveiling a comprehensive 10-point agenda. This plan seeks to balance the continuation of projects initiated under the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV with new strategies for institutional accountability, youth employment, agricultural enhancement, and stronger partnerships with the central government. The agenda has reportedly received endorsement from King Nyabongo I and the Queen Mother.

Rwomiire emphasized that the recent royal succession should not impede developmental momentum. He stated his commitment to honouring the legacy of the late King Oyo by completing his unfinished work and fostering a more united and prosperous Tooro. A key focus of his interim administration includes addressing outstanding staff salary arrears at the Muchwa Kingdom headquarters and implementing stricter financial controls to ensure administrative sustainability.

The Youth Economic Empowerment and Incubation Hubs initiative, launched in October 2025 with the goal of equipping 50,000 young people with vital skills, is slated for reactivation. The program has already seen the establishment of hubs in Kyegegwa, Mwenge North, and Mwenge South, with plans for official commissioning during the King’s upcoming county tours.

In agriculture, Rwomiire confirmed ongoing discussions with the Minister of Agriculture, Frank Tumwebaze, to secure essential inputs like seedlings and fertilizers, building upon the King Oyo Model Farm. The administration also aims to conclude the suspended Tooro Kingdom MTN Masaza Cup and integrate the Queen Mother’s ‘Girls for Girls’ mentorship program into the kingdom’s development framework. High-level engagements with central government ministries are also planned.

Concluding his address, Rwomiire extended a public apology for any misunderstandings or missteps that may have occurred during the sensitive transition period following the passing of the late King Oyo. He expressed his responsibility for his role in any such matters and pledged to rebuild public confidence through transparent leadership during his tenure.
