Tragedy struck on the Kayunga-Jinja Road in Kayunga District on Wednesday morning when a road crash claimed the lives of three individuals. The incident occurred around 9:40 AM near Kyampisi and involved a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a motorcycle, and three pedestrians.

According to Ssezibwa Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, the SUV was traveling from Kayunga towards Jinja at what is believed to be a high speed. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the right side of the road where it struck three pedestrians. Two of the pedestrians died at the scene.

In an attempt to regain control, the SUV then collided head-on with an oncoming Bajaj Boxer motorcycle traveling from Jinja to Kayunga. The rider of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. One pedestrian who initially survived the impact was taken to Kayunga Hospital but tragically passed away later.

The deceased have been identified as Sekito Mike, 27, Nanfuka Eris, 65, and Mutesi Lilian, 23, all residents of the Kyampisi area. An unidentified adult male who was also injured is currently receiving medical treatment.

This latest fatal crash underscores ongoing safety concerns on the Kayunga-Jinja Road, occurring less than two weeks after a separate accident in the same district resulted in two deaths and nine injuries. Police have impounded the involved SUV for inspection and are continuing their investigations.

Authorities are urging all road users, including drivers and passengers, to exercise extreme caution, adhere to traffic laws, and be vigilant, especially in areas with significant pedestrian and motorcycle activity. Passengers are encouraged to voice concerns if they witness dangerous driving behaviors.
