The Stromme Foundation is celebrating 50 years of empowering individuals and communities, marked by poignant reflections from those whose lives have been directly impacted by its programs. Among the distinguished guests at the anniversary was Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, David Bahati.
Bahati revealed that he was once a recipient of Stromme’s aid during his Senior Five schooling. Having lost both parents at a young age, he faced significant hurdles in continuing his education. The Foundation’s assistance, including basic necessities like beddings and a Bible, provided him with the hope and stability needed to persevere, ultimately leading him to a career in public service.
His story highlights the profound impact of timely intervention. “Today I stand before you not only as a guest celebrating the legacy, but as one of the lives personally touched,” Bahati stated, emphasizing that the support extended beyond material aid, offering a crucial lifeline during a period of uncertainty.
Dr. Stella Jackline Wagabona, now a medical doctor, shared a similar narrative of overcoming financial constraints that repeatedly threatened her education. Stromme’s support enabled her to complete her studies and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, graduating in 2021 and now serving in the medical field.
Evelyn Kojo Duku, a refugee from South Sudan, found a new path through Stromme’s Bonga program. After fleeing conflict and facing the challenges of displacement and dropping out of school, she received life-skills training in hairdressing. This led her to start her own salon and later return to education, becoming a mentor and a focal person for a Ministry of Gender program.
Country Representative for Stromme Foundation Uganda, Dinah Morgan, underscored that these individual transformations are the true measure of the organization’s success. As the Foundation looks to the future, it is also focusing on addressing the root causes of poverty and adapting its strategies to meet evolving global challenges. The organization is emphasizing a renewed brand identity that highlights its commitment to “fighting poverty” through education, job creation, and community-led development.
These testimonials underscore Stromme Foundation’s enduring mission to foster dignity and opportunity for vulnerable populations, demonstrating that even modest support can ignite transformative journeys.
