President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently engaged in productive discussions with Nigerian investor Dr. Abbas A. Waziri, the Group Chairman of Resident Group PLC, at State House Entebbe. The meeting centered on identifying and fostering investment opportunities within Uganda, alongside strengthening the economic relationship between Uganda and Nigeria.
Dr. Waziri conveyed a keen interest in developing Uganda’s industrial and resource sectors. Specifically, he highlighted potential investments in establishing a cement manufacturing plant and exploring avenues within the nation’s rich mineral deposits. This aligns with Uganda’s broader goals of industrialization and value addition.
The high-level meeting also delved into Uganda’s unique agricultural heritage, particularly its prized Ankole cattle. Both parties explored the promising potential for exporting these indigenous cattle and other Ugandan dairy products to the Nigerian market. Such ventures could open new revenue streams and promote Ugandan agricultural brands internationally.
This engagement forms part of a larger strategic initiative by the Ugandan government to actively promote foreign investment and broaden economic collaborations with African nations. The ultimate aim is to cultivate new and sustainable markets for Ugandan goods and services, thereby driving economic growth and diversification.
