Kassanda Student Dies After Alleged Stone Attack by Canteen Attendant

Tragedy has struck Bright Way Secondary School in Kassanda District after a Senior Three student, Ronald Ssemiyingo, 20, died following an altercation with a school canteen attendant.
The suspect, identified as Resty Namutebi, was apprehended by police and is currently in custody. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday morning when Namutebi allegedly confronted Ssemiyingo.
According to police reports, during the confrontation, Namutebi picked up a stone and threw it. However, the projectile missed its intended target and instead struck Ssemiyingo on the head, causing a severe injury.
School authorities provided initial first aid to the injured student before he was rushed to Red Rose Hospital for further medical attention. Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the facility.
The incident was officially reported to Kassanda Police Station on Wednesday afternoon by Emmanuel Luyima. A homicide team from the district has since visited the scene and commenced a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ssemiyingo’s death.
Witness statements have been collected as part of the ongoing inquiry. Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi stated that detectives are working to ascertain the exact cause of death and to understand the sequence of events that led to the stone being thrown.
