Tragedy struck along the Kayunga-Jinja Road on Wednesday morning when a devastating accident claimed the lives of three individuals and left another seriously injured. The incident occurred around 9:40 am in the Kyampisi area of Kayunga District.

A Toyota Land Cruiser, traveling from Kayunga towards Jinja, reportedly lost control due to excessive speed. According to police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, the vehicle swerved onto the right side of the road, striking three pedestrians. Two of the pedestrians died at the scene.

In a desperate attempt to regain control, the driver then collided head-on with an oncoming Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. The motorcycle rider sustained severe injuries, and has been hospitalized. One of the pedestrians who initially survived the impact was taken to Kayunga Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Sekito Mike, 27, Nanfuka Eris, 65, and Mutesi Lilian, 23, all residents of the immediate vicinity. An unidentified adult male pedestrian also sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

This latest fatal crash follows another serious incident on the same road just two weeks prior, highlighting ongoing safety concerns. Police have impounded the Land Cruiser for inspection and urged all road users to exercise extreme caution, adhere to traffic laws, and for passengers to speak out against dangerous driving.
