A remarkable story of survival has emerged from Agwatatek Village in the Kole District of Uganda, where a newborn baby was found alive after being abandoned in a bush for three days. The infant, whose mother is reported to have a history of mental illness, was discovered by its aunt, Ms. Josephine Obua, on the fourth day.

According to reports, the mother, Evelyn Ayugi, left her family home on December 21st around 3:30 PM, stating she needed to relieve herself. She did not return until 4:00 PM the following day, leaving her family in distress and searching for her and the baby.

For three agonizing days, family members and residents searched the surrounding areas. Hope began to dwindle until Ms. Obua found the baby approximately one kilometer from their home. The baby’s body was reportedly covered in soldier ants, termites, and other insects that were feeding on the placenta and other parts of the infant.

Despite the harrowing conditions, the baby was found alive. Ms. Obua is now caring for the child, who has been named Apwoyorwot. This incident highlights the severe challenges faced by families dealing with mental health issues and the desperate situations that can arise.
