Rose Tumusiime, who was present with Afrigo Band singer Moses Matovu shortly before his untimely death, will not be facing any criminal charges, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Lino Angunzu, has announced. Instead, Ms. Tumusiime is poised to become a crucial witness for the prosecution in the case against Vincent Arnold Nsamba, also known as Sitenda.
Nsamba is accused of assaulting Matovu, an act that allegedly led to the singer’s death. Mr. Angunzu clarified that Tumusiime’s earlier appearance in court alongside Nsamba was a result of a police error and that she was never considered a suspect. He suggested that any current undisclosed location for Ms. Tumusiime might be for her own protection.
The prosecution alleges that on the night of the incident, Nsamba found Tumusiime with Matovu at a house he was reportedly paying for. An argument ensued, allegedly leading Nsamba to confront Matovu. During the altercation, Matovu reportedly intervened and was subsequently punched by Nsamba, causing him to fall. Matovu was later pronounced dead at Kibuli Hospital.
Investigators have reportedly obtained a statement from Nsamba admitting to punching Matovu, though he denies any intention to kill. Nsamba has been charged and remanded in Luzira Prison, with the case scheduled for mention on November 3.
