Weighbridge operations have officially commenced on the crucial Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, marking a significant step in enforcing vehicle load limits. Starting Tuesday, October 6, 2026, all vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and above are now mandated to pass through the weighbridge.
This initiative, directed by the Ministry of Works and Transport under Minister Fred Byamukama, aims to bolster control over vehicle weights. The primary goals are to prevent damage to the expressway and other vital road infrastructure, which often suffer from the strain of overloaded trucks and vehicles.
Beyond infrastructure protection, the measure is also designed to enhance road safety for all users. Authorities have issued a stern warning that any vehicles found to be exceeding the legal weight limits will be subject to applicable charges and other enforcement actions.
The government is intensifying its efforts to ensure that both motorists and transport operators adhere to the prescribed load limits. This increased enforcement is a critical part of a broader strategy to reduce the ongoing damage to Uganda’s road network and improve the longevity of its infrastructure.
These weighbridge operations are expected to significantly strengthen compliance with existing load regulations, ultimately contributing to safer roads and better-maintained infrastructure across the country.
