Uganda’s Ministry of Health offers routine vaccinations at no cost through public health facilities, a move health experts are championing. Dr. Kintu Faisal Mwoko, proprietor of Bamukembo Specialist Medical Center, highlighted the importance of adhering to the recommended vaccination schedule during a recent television appearance.
Dr. Mwoko stressed that parents should ensure newborns receive essential vaccines, such as those for tuberculosis, polio, and Hepatitis B, before leaving the hospital. These early vaccinations are crucial for building a child’s immunity and protecting them from potentially severe illnesses.
He also addressed vaccine hesitancy, encouraging individuals to seek reliable information and follow the established immunization guidelines. Dr. Mwoko acknowledged that minor reactions post-vaccination are possible and advised parents to consult medical professionals if they observe any concerning symptoms.
Furthermore, Dr. Mwoko cautioned against the use of fraudulent immunization cards, urging the public to rely on authentic records and follow the official vaccination schedule. Maintaining accurate records is essential to ensure children receive all necessary doses for comprehensive protection.
