Uganda Police Officer Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Colleague

A tragic incident has occurred at Rubona Police Station in Fort Portal City, where a police officer has been apprehended for the alleged fatal shooting of a fellow officer. The suspect, identified as Probation Police Constable (PPC) Joshua Gumprom, 22, reportedly shot Detective Police Constable (D/PPC) Sharon Namara during their duty shift.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting took place around 5:00 PM on October 5, 2026. Gumprom, Namara, and another officer, PPC Sadrack Ojede, were reportedly at the police station when Gumprom allegedly discharged his firearm, hitting Namara without any apparent provocation.
The victim, D/PPC Namara, was rushed to Buhinga Hospital following the incident. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of PPC Gumprom. A team from the Homicide department, accompanied by a Scene of Crime Officer, visited the location to gather evidence. They successfully recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, along with a spent cartridge.
Witness statements have been collected as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting. The Rwenzori West regional police spokesperson stated that he was awaiting official briefings on the matter. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
