Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I has announced the reappointment of Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki as the prime minister of Tooro Kingdom. This appointment is for a six-month transitional period, following the recent passing of the former Omukama, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, in August.

Rwomiire, who also served as premier during the reign of the late Omukama Oyo, accepted the renewed responsibility with seriousness and called for support from the royal family, kingdom leaders, and the people of Tooro. He has already submitted a new cabinet for the king’s consideration, which will serve during this interim phase.

In addition to the prime minister, Prince Charles Kamurasi has been reinstated as the head of the Babiito royal clan (Musuuga), with Bernard Kato Rwakatale as his deputy. An 11-member advisory committee has also been formed to support the new administration.

The transitional government plans to address several key areas, including clearing salary arrears for kingdom staff, strengthening administrative systems, and completing youth empowerment projects. They also aim to organize the new king’s county visits, promote agriculture, finalize the Masaza tournament, and develop a kingdom-wide strategic plan.

Rwomiire emphasized the importance of accountability and proper resource management. He urged the people of Tooro to remain united and cooperate with the king as the kingdom enters a new chapter.

This leadership transition follows the formal coronation of Nyabongo as the successor to Omukama Oyo, who passed away at the age of 34.
