Veteran comedian Madrat, a prominent figure in the “Madrat & Chiko” duo, has opened up about how his educational journey was cut short, significantly impacting his broader ambitions, particularly in politics.
In a recent interview, Madrat confessed a long-held desire to represent his community in a political office. However, he acknowledged that his current educational standing does not meet the necessary qualifications for such a role.
“I would have loved to contest for a political position, but I do not have the required education,” Madrat stated. He did not rule out the possibility of returning to formal schooling in the future, but also noted the often-cited complexities of the political arena.
Madrat’s formal education concluded at what was then known as Africana Whiteland College International, now Seroma Christian High School. He explained that financial difficulties at home made it challenging for his mother to keep up with school fees.
He recalled a system where students with outstanding balances were sometimes required to undertake manual labor for the institution during school breaks. “My mother didn’t have money, and we would study for the whole term, but if we failed to clear the balance, he would hold us and make us do work for him in the holidays,” he explained.
This demanding regimen ultimately led Madrat to discontinue his studies entirely, a decision he now views with regret. Despite this setback, he has forged a successful and enduring career in the entertainment industry alongside his comedy partner, Chiko.
