Residents in Kitimbwa Town Council, Kayunga District, are in a state of anxiety following an alleged survey of approximately 140 hectares of land. More than 150 households claim to have occupied this land for many years, and they fear the survey could be a precursor to forced eviction.
The inhabitants report that a group, reportedly led by an individual identified as Tikansiimire, entered the area and conducted the survey without obtaining prior consent, notification, or offering any form of compensation. This has fueled concerns that the survey might be intended to facilitate land ownership claims or other transactions that could lead to their displacement.
In response to these fears, the concerned residents have sought the intervention of Kayunga Deputy Resident District Commissioner, John Magezi. They have urged him to investigate what they describe as a potential land grab.
Deputy RDC Magezi has issued a stern warning against conducting land surveys without adhering to established procedures. He emphasized that his office must be informed of any such activities, stating that surveys carried out without official knowledge, consent, or compensation are illegal and will be met with appropriate action. Magezi confirmed that his office had not received any requests or notifications regarding the survey of the disputed 140 hectares.
Magezi encouraged the residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspected land grabbing or unlawful activities to the authorities. The current situation in Kitimbwa is unfolding amidst broader land ownership disputes and alleged acquisition attempts in Kayunga District. However, the specific allegations against Tikansiimire’s group and the purpose of the survey remain unconfirmed at this time.
Authorities are expected to investigate the ownership status of the land and the circumstances surrounding the survey. The immediate concern for the affected households is their potential displacement from land they have relied upon for years.
