The Government of Iceland is set to significantly impact development in three Ugandan districts through an approved $8 million grant. This funding, spanning from 2026 to 2028, will primarily focus on enhancing educational facilities and improving water and sanitation systems.

Katrín Einarsdóttir, Iceland’s new Head of Mission in Kampala, announced the grant during a meeting with Uganda’s Finance Minister, Henry Musasizi. She emphasized Iceland’s dedication to Uganda’s development, particularly its investment in education as a cornerstone for future generations.

Einarsdóttir highlighted the importance of transparent financial oversight and program quality, stressing accountability to Icelandic taxpayers. Minister Musasizi welcomed the support, aligning it with Uganda’s “Tenfold Growth Strategy” for the next 15 years. He encouraged Iceland to invest in Uganda’s priority sectors, including agriculture, tourism, minerals, and science and technology.

The Finance Minister also urged Iceland to help attract foreign direct investment and tourism, promote value addition and innovation, and market Uganda as a prime investment destination. Musasizi acknowledged Iceland’s consistent support for Uganda’s development through various projects, particularly those previously implemented in Kalangala, Buikwe, and Namayingo districts.

This new grant signifies a continued partnership between Iceland and Uganda, aiming to foster sustainable growth and improve living standards in the recipient districts.
