Tragedy struck Kabwohe Stage in Sheema Municipality on Tuesday evening when a trailer lost control and crashed into three parked vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 PM, claimed the lives of at least five people.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer, while navigating through the busy town, suddenly veered off course and impacted the stationary vehicles. The force of the collision caused significant damage, trapping victims beneath the wreckage.

Among the deceased identified so far are Umar, a boda boda operator, and Living, a motor vehicle mechanic who was working near the stage at the time of the crash. Emergency services and local residents worked tirelessly to search for any further individuals who might have been trapped.

While the official cause of the accident is yet to be determined, residents have pointed to the poor condition of the road as a major contributing factor. “This road is very narrow and full of potholes yet Kabwohe is a very busy business town,” stated one local resident. “Trailers struggle to control especially when it is loaded. Government should work on this road before we lose more people.”

This incident adds to a concerning pattern of fatal accidents along the Mbarara-Ishaka road, which has seen over 15 accidents in the past six months.

Police arrived at the scene to manage the situation, tow the damaged vehicles, and direct traffic. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Kabwohe Health Centre IV mortuary.
