Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the detention of blogger Aziz Tarik Nkata at Luzira Prison. Nkata, 41, faces charges related to the unlawful acquisition and sharing of personal information, as well as the dissemination of false information.

Appearing before Magistrate Rophine Achayo, Nkata denied both allegations. The prosecution stated that their investigation into the matter has been concluded.

According to the charge sheet, Nkata, who operates under the TikTok handle ‘Mr Accountability’, is alleged to have made statements in July concerning Nathan Bwogi, identifying him as a State House employee. Nkata is accused of falsely claiming that Bwogi used a firearm to forcibly evict individuals from land.

An attempt by Nkata to apply for bail was unsuccessful, as his legal representative reportedly failed to present the necessary authorization documents to the court. Consequently, Magistrate Achayo remanded Nkata to Luzira Prison until October 19, his next court date.

Bwogi, the complainant in the case, initially expressed willingness to forgive Nkata and had spoken with the blogger’s family. However, he stated that his lawyer advised him to proceed with legal action.

In a related development, Edson Kirabira, president of the bloggers’ association, has issued a warning to content creators. He urged them to refrain from using their platforms for insults or defamation and to exercise responsibility when publishing information that could harm an individual’s reputation.

The case is scheduled for further proceedings.
