Alex Guma has emerged as the overall winner of the second quarter of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series, largely attributed to his consistent practice and proximity to the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa. Guma topped the charts with the highest average score of 39.5 points over the par-72 course.
Guma, who plays off a handicap of 21, emphasized that his dedication involved playing at least two rounds weekly and practicing frequently, accumulating over 15 rounds since the tournament’s inception in June. This commitment allowed him to score an average of 95 gross per round. He was awarded a Callaway Elyte 3 Wood and the winner’s trophy.
Despite facing challenges on hole No. 11, Guma expressed his determination to continue practicing, lower his handicap further, and aim for an 85 gross score. In the final Saturday competition of the quarter, he scored 35 points in a field that included notable figures like international businessman Punir Mehta.
The Serena 63 series, named after the course record of 63 set by Dismas Indiza, saw Maxie Muwonge finish second with 39.3 points, narrowly beating Matthew Nviiri on count-back. Timothy Musiime secured fourth place with 38.2 points.
I&M Bank, a key sponsor, highlighted the series’ role in building client relationships and creating memorable experiences. The bank reaffirmed its commitment to fostering community engagement beyond traditional banking services. The series partners also include Serena Hotels, Kenya Airways, and MTN MoMo.
To qualify for the year-end grand prize, participants must complete at least 36 rounds. The ultimate prize includes an annual golf membership at Kigo worth $2500, Serena accommodation across East Africa, and additional sponsor prizes.
