The Ministry of Education and Sports has publicly backed the ongoing implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Ugandan schools. This endorsement comes amid discussions about the curriculum’s effectiveness and the resources available to educators.

A key initiative to bolster the CBC’s success is the planned establishment of a dedicated teacher support center. This center aims to provide educators with the necessary training, resources, and ongoing professional development required to effectively deliver the competency-based approach. The ministry believes that empowering teachers is crucial for the curriculum’s transition and long-term viability.

In parallel with the support center, the ministry is also facilitating the distribution of essential science learning materials to educational institutions nationwide. These materials are intended to enhance practical learning and experimentation, aligning with the CBC’s emphasis on hands-on experience and skill development. The provision of these resources is expected to equip schools with the tools needed to foster a more engaging and effective learning environment, particularly in science subjects.

The ministry has stressed that the CBC is designed to equip students with practical skills and competencies relevant to the modern world, moving beyond rote memorization. The government remains committed to ensuring that schools have the necessary infrastructure and pedagogical support to facilitate this educational shift. Further updates on the rollout of the teacher support center and the distribution of materials are anticipated.
