Tragic road incidents in the Busoga East region have claimed the lives of two individuals following separate hit-and-run crashes. Authorities are now appealing to the public for information to apprehend the drivers responsible.

The first incident occurred in Bugiri district along the Bugiri-Nankoma Road. An Isuzu Elf truck, bearing registration UAQ 879Q, collided with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UFX 292J). The motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Daudi Nkwanga of Nankoma Town Council, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Police reports indicate the truck driver swerved to avoid a pothole, veering into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Traffic police from Bugiri visited the accident site. The motorcycle has been impounded at Bugiri Central Police Station for examination, and Nkwanga’s body was transported to Bugiri Hospital for a postmortem.

In the second incident, a pedestrian was killed in Namutumba district on the Iganga-Mbale Highway. An unidentified vehicle, possibly a Toyota Noah or a double-cabin pickup, struck Christopher Basuuta, a 70-year-old resident of Nawaikona Village, before speeding away. Basuuta was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Basuuta’s attempt to cross the highway contributed to the accident. The Namutumba traffic police have documented the scene, and Basuuta’s body was released for burial pending a postmortem.

Busoga East police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha stated that investigations are ongoing to track down the vehicles and drivers involved in both incidents. Police urge anyone with information, particularly regarding vehicles that may have sustained damage consistent with these crashes, to come forward and report to the nearest police station.
