Following the recent enthronement of King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, the Kingdom of Tooro is entering a six-month transition phase. To guide the kingdom through this period, His Majesty has appointed Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire to serve as the interim Prime Minister.
The announcement was formally made by Paul Nyakana Businge, the Principal Secretary to the King, via an official statement.
Rwomiire’s previous experience as Prime Minister during the reign of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is expected to provide valuable continuity for the kingdom’s administration.
In addition to the Prime Minister appointment, Prince Charles Kayondo Kamurasi Akiiki has been retained as the Omusuga of Tooro, with Prince Kato Benard Rwakatale Abbooki stepping in as his deputy. Kamurasi holds the significant position of Chief Prince and heads the Babiito Royal Clan.
An 11-member interim advisory committee has also been established to support the new administration. Its members include Erisa Kakyomya, Peace Mutuuzo, Chris Kaijuka, Isaiah Mayombo, Benald Tungwako, Flavia Kabahenda, Aston Kajara, Binta Kasoojo, Abdullah Mangalija, William Byaruhanga, and Monica Rubombora.
These appointments aim to create a stable interim leadership structure as the kingdom reorganizes itself under the new monarch. The transition follows the death of Omukama Oyo on August 27, 2026, and a period of succession discussions. The new leadership is tasked with balancing the continuation of existing institutions with the establishment of frameworks for the new reign, marking a new chapter after Oyo’s 31-year rule.
