King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I of the Tooro Kingdom is poised to establish his administration by appointing a new prime minister, assistant prime ministers, and cabinet ministers. This move signifies the beginning of his reign and the implementation of his vision for the kingdom.
According to Charles Kamurasi, the head of the Babiito royal clan, the appointments are a crucial step in forming a new government structure. This administration will be tasked with supporting the Omukama and overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the Tooro institution.
“Very soon, the king will appoint and announce to the Supreme Council the next Omuhikirwa, the prime minister, assistant prime ministers and cabinet ministers, those we call here Amagatwa,” Kamurasi stated. The Supreme Council will then convene to approve these appointments before the new cabinet is sworn into office.
Kamurasi emphasized that with the previous cabinet’s term ending with the late King Oyo’s reign, it is now time to revitalize Tooro. He expressed expectations for a competent prime minister and cabinet dedicated to serving the kingdom.
Following the formation of the new government, the next significant undertaking will be ‘Kujengeza Omukama,’ a royal tour. During this tour, King Nyabongo I plans to visit all nine counties of the Tooro Kingdom and engage with Batooro communities living outside the kingdom, including those in the diaspora.
The royal tour is strategically planned to occur after the administration is in place, as the king will be accompanied by the prime minister, ministers, and other kingdom officials. King Nyabongo I ascended to the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, and his coronation took place on September 29.
