Less than a week after his coronation, His Majesty King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I of Tooro Kingdom has begun to shape his administration. In his first significant move, the King has reappointed Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire as the Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) for an interim period of six months. This reappointment signifies continuity in the kingdom’s leadership during this transitional phase.
Furthermore, Charles Kayondo Kamurasi has been retained in his crucial role as Omujwera Musuuga, the esteemed head of the Babiito royal clan. Kamurasi, who is 80 years old, played a pivotal role during the recent succession process, leading the committee that identified Prince Edward Kijanangoma as the successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. His continued presence underscores his deep understanding of the kingdom’s traditions and royal lineage.
Alongside these key appointments, King Nyabongo I has also formed an 11-member interim advisory committee. This diverse group comprises individuals with significant experience in politics, law, business, and cultural affairs, tasked with guiding the King’s administration. Notable members include former Attorney General William Byaruhanga and former State Minister for Gender and Culture Peace Mutuuzo, adding considerable expertise to the advisory council.
The appointments were announced by the King’s Principal Private Secretary, Mr. Paul Nyakana Businge, at Karuziika Palace, marking the beginning of King Nyabongo I’s reign and his efforts to assemble a team for the kingdom’s future. Prime Minister Rwomiire is expected to form his cabinet within his six-month interim term, which concludes in March 2027.
