SICPA Uganda has stepped in to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for quality education and clean water in Kampala’s informal settlements. Their latest Corporate Social Responsibility initiative involves a significant donation to the Angaza Resource Centre, operated by the 40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation (4040) at Merowa Junior School.

The donation includes a refurbished shipping container, which will serve as the mobile library’s operational base, and a 5,000-litre rainwater harvesting tank. This mobile library is designed to bring books and digital literacy resources directly to schools across Makindye Division that lack their own infrastructure.

The Angaza Resource Centre currently supports over 250 children aged 4 to 20 with free reading space, digital literacy classes, and learning support. Despite efforts, the demand for educational aids remains high in densely populated areas like Kibuli, which face challenges such as lower literacy rates and limited access to learning materials.

Ms Suzan Kitariko, General Manager of SICPA Uganda, emphasized the critical role of corporate support in addressing educational disparities. “A library gives a child somewhere to explore beyond what is taught in class,” she stated, highlighting the long-term impact of learning opportunities on a child’s future.

The new facilities are expected to significantly improve learning outcomes and provide a reliable water source, especially during municipal supply disruptions. This initiative aligns with SICPA Uganda’s history of community engagement, which includes previous projects focused on water access, health, and education across Uganda.
