Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja lauded the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) over the weekend for its efforts in bringing electricity to educational institutions and small-scale industries in Butebo District.
Speaking at an event in Petete Sub-county, Nabbanja highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritizing electricity access as a crucial factor for Uganda’s economic transformation. She specifically praised UEDCL for connecting Petete Primary School and supporting a new industrial park in Kabarekere.
The newly commissioned projects, valued at Shs240 million, are set to benefit numerous households, businesses, local administrative offices, and schools within the area. Petete Primary School, for instance, was fully wired but lacked a grid connection until UEDCL extended the distribution network and installed a new transformer.
In Kabarekere Village, a 100kVA transformer was installed to power a burgeoning mini-industrial park. This upgrade addresses the inadequacy of the previous power supply, which struggled to meet the growing demand from commercial and agro-processing activities in the region, as explained by UEDCL Managing Director, Eng Joselynne Rwabwogo.
Eng Rwabwogo further stated that UEDCL is actively engaging with stakeholders nationwide to foster collaboration, address customer issues, and enhance service delivery. These initiatives underscore the company’s dedication to improving the electricity distribution network and ensuring reliable power across the country.
