Kololo Independence Grounds buzzed with energy on Saturday as thousands gathered for Plascon India Day 2026, a vibrant celebration of Indian culture in Uganda. The event, organized by the Vishwadharma Foundation and the Indian Association Uganda, with Kansai Plascon Uganda as the main sponsor, offered a rich tapestry of music, dance, and culinary delights.
Attendees were treated to a spectacular showcase with nearly 400 performers gracing the stage with traditional, classical, and contemporary Indian dances. Approximately 30 stalls lined the grounds, presenting a diverse array of Indian food, cultural exhibits, and community services, fostering a strong sense of engagement between Uganda’s Indian community and the general public.
The festivities were graced by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Minister of Trade Sanjay Tanna, Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara, and Minister of ICT Justine Kasule Lumumba, among other government officials and prominent business leaders.
The musical highlight of the evening was a performance by popular Indian singer Neha Kakkar, who was later joined by her husband, Rohanpreet Singh. Their energetic set had the crowd singing and dancing, providing a lively conclusion to the day’s events.
Beyond the vibrant cultural displays and entertainment, Plascon India Day 2026 placed a significant emphasis on social responsibility. Kansai Plascon Uganda announced a renewed commitment to fund 100 heart surgeries for children under five years old and 1,000 cataract operations for Ugandan patients. This initiative builds upon last year’s successful pledge, demonstrating a sustained dedication to improving healthcare access.
Dr. Santosh Gumte, Managing Director of Kansai Plascon Uganda, elaborated that the heart surgeries will involve specialized treatment in India, with comprehensive post-operative support. The cataract program aims to serve patients across Uganda, further underscoring the event’s impact. This healthcare drive adds a crucial social dimension to an event that has become a vital platform for cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral ties.
