Old Mutual Holdings Plc has reassured its customers in Uganda that the sale of select properties in Kampala will not impact its financial stability or its capacity to fulfill policyholder commitments.

The company stated that the divestments are a strategic move to strengthen its balance sheet, enhance returns, and reduce concentration in its investment property portfolio. This reassessment of real estate holdings is part of a broader investment management strategy.

Specifically, Old Mutual has transferred ownership of its property at Plot 1 Kimathi Avenue in Kampala’s central business district to businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia. Additionally, the insurer is currently evaluating the potential sale of its Nakawa Business Park and Nakawa House properties.

Old Mutual clarified that these properties are shareholder assets and are entirely separate from the assets held by its operating subsidiaries in Uganda. Therefore, their transfer or potential divestment has no bearing on the assets that support customer and policyholder obligations.

The company stressed that its insurance and investment businesses in Uganda remain well-capitalized, compliant with regulatory requirements, and continue to operate as usual. Old Mutual reiterated its commitment to Uganda as an important market, aiming for long-term growth and continued service to its customers.

This strategic repositioning of its real estate portfolio underscores a wider trend among institutional investors to reassess investment compositions for optimal long-term returns.
