Iganga District LCV Chairman Shabiru Isabirye Kalulu, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has voiced strong support for President Yoweri Museveni’s Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs programme. Kalulu praised the initiative for equipping young Ugandans with practical skills, enabling them to become job creators and entrepreneurs.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement at the Busoga Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Jinja City, Kalulu emphasized the program’s value. He highlighted that it provides vocational training, accommodation, and meals free of charge, making it accessible to unemployed youth.
Kalulu, who also chairs the board of the Busoga hub, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the “life-changing programme.” He encouraged young people between 18 and 35 years old to seize the opportunity to develop skills in trades such as tailoring, welding, carpentry, and hairdressing.
Addressing his political affiliation, Kalulu stated that his role as an elected leader necessitates advocating for beneficial programs, irrespective of party lines. “What is right, I will say it is right, and what is wrong, I will say it is wrong,” he asserted, stressing the importance of prioritizing service delivery over partisan politics.
Kalulu specifically requested the establishment of a new Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub in Iganga District, arguing that the current facilities are insufficient for the region’s needs. He also called for upgrades to the existing Busoga hub, including improved infrastructure and additional transportation support.
In response, Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller, acknowledged the effectiveness of the Busoga hub and assured that the program is open to all Ugandans regardless of political affiliation. Raymond Kamugisha, Head of Presidential Projects, announced plans for a new hub in Bugiri District, adding to the network aimed at skill development across the country.
