A notable gathering at Bujuni Playground in Kibaale district saw local leaders, including former Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, publicly declare their support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential presidential candidacy in 2031. The event, aimed at demonstrating solidarity with the Chief of Defence Forces’ reported ambitions, involved attendees signing endorsement books and a banner.

Kasaija, who was the chief guest, explained the endorsement as a strategic move by the “ageing” elders to secure an alternative leadership option for the future. He emphasized Muhoozi’s perceived capacity to lead and urged supporters to actively spread the word about his potential bid.

“We are ageing. Most of us men and women will one time not be around, so we told him to start his bid and see how it goes. We know he has the capacity, so that’s how it started,” Kasaija stated.

Other political figures present, such as Buyanja East MP Dr. Emily Kugonza and Kibaale Woman MP Annet Nabaduuka, also expressed confidence in General Muhoozi. However, their support was framed with a caveat, contingent on President Yoweri Museveni’s decision regarding a potential 2031 run, with Muhoozi positioned as a strong alternative.

Organizers reported a significant grassroots engagement, with endorsement books distributed across Kibaale’s 14 sub-counties and an estimated 12,000 signatures collected in support of Muhoozi’s presidential aspirations.
