Authorities in Kasese have taken a firm stance on road safety, impounding 54 motorcycles in a significant traffic enforcement operation. The crackdown, led by the territorial traffic police at Nyamwamba Bridge, specifically targeted riders flouting traffic regulations.

Key violations addressed during the operation included operating without valid riding licenses and carrying passengers beyond the legally permitted limit. One motorcycle was also found without a registration number, leading to the rider’s arrest and pending court proceedings.

According to ASP Elly Maate, spokesperson for Rwenzori East police, the impounded motorcycles have been secured at Kasese Central Police Station. Owners are required to present the necessary riding licenses for their vehicles to be released.

This initiative is part of broader, nationwide efforts by traffic authorities to improve road safety and regulate the motorcycle transport sector. Police emphasized that these operations are crucial for reducing road accidents and protecting all road users.

Maate stated that the ongoing operations are designed to streamline the transport industry and serve as a vital safety measure for riders, underscoring the principle that “every life matters.” Police are urging all motorcycle riders to obtain proper licenses, adhere to passenger capacity rules, and observe all traffic laws to ensure safer roads for everyone.
