Bishop James Bukomeko Salongo recently lauded women for their vital contributions to families, churches, and communities. Speaking at St. Stephen’s Cathedral Kiweesa in Wabigala, Mityana District, during Mother’s Union Day celebrations, he urged women to maintain their leading role in nurturing strong homes and fostering peaceful societies.
Bukomeko expressed gratitude for the women’s dedication to strengthening household units and supporting the Church’s mission. He stressed that committed women are essential for building stable and tranquil communities, highlighting the foundational importance of robust family structures.
“Women have a significant role in building families and strengthening the Church. We appreciate their contribution and encourage them to continue serving with commitment and love,” Bishop Bukomeko stated.
The event also saw the election of a new leadership team for the Mother’s Union. The newly elected president vowed to prioritize issues impacting women and enhance their engagement in Church activities. The incoming leadership plans to concentrate on addressing women’s challenges while promoting unity and cooperation among members.
The priest in charge of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Kiweesa encouraged Christians to cultivate peace and reconciliation within their families and communities. “Let us resolve disagreements peacefully, support one another and make the Church a place where people can find guidance and encouragement,” he advised.
Church leaders indicated that fortifying families, empowering women, and promoting harmonious coexistence will remain key objectives for the Mother’s Union under its new leadership. The Mother’s Union is a ministry within the Anglican Church dedicated to supporting family life, upholding Christian values, and enhancing community well-being.
