Nakawa Magistrates Court has ordered the continued detention of lawyer Augustine Paul Kasasa and land expert Ronald Fisher Mundere. They are facing accusations of obtaining a significant sum of Shs520 million from a Chinese national through fraudulent means.

Appearing before Magistrate Frank Namanya, the duo were presented to the court, but proceedings were halted. The prosecution cited the unavailability of the case file as the reason for their inability to present the charges.

State Prosecutor Mahatma Odongo formally requested the court to extend the remand period for both Kasasa and Mundere. He explained that without the necessary documentation, the prosecution could not move forward with the case. “The prosecution is unable to proceed with the matter because the relevant case file is not before court. We therefore pray that the accused persons be remanded to Luzira Prison,” Odongo stated.

Mundere, one of the accused, objected to his return to Luzira Prison, questioning the court’s jurisdiction to remand him when the case file was missing. However, Magistrate Namanya overruled the objection and confirmed the remand until October 15, 2026.

According to the charges, Kasasa and Mundere, along with other individuals not yet identified, allegedly perpetrated the fraud on June 8, 2026. The alleged incident took place at Kololo Courts Hotel in Nakawa Division.

The prosecution claims that the accused falsely represented that they could facilitate the purchase of land at Coral Crescent, Plot 12, Kololo, for Chinese national Li Huafeng. This led to the transfer of Shs520 million. The land transaction, however, reportedly never materialized after the funds were received.

The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case awaits further proceedings. https://nilepost.co.ug/news/375113/nakawa-court-remands-lawyer-land-expert-over-shs520m-fraud-allegations
