H5 Resources, a prominent tin producer in Uganda, has been honored with the prestigious 2026 Responsible Mining and Environmental Stewardship Award. This recognition was bestowed at the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference held in Kampala.

In addition to the top environmental award, the company also secured the runner-up spot in the Community Impact and Local Content category, highlighting its commitment to broader social responsibility.

The awards were presented by the Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals at Speke Resort Munyonyo. This significant industry event is a collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, which specifically nominated H5 Resources for its outstanding stewardship.

Fiona Ntoreine, Director of Administration at H5 Resources, accepted both accolades on behalf of the company. Their work focuses on revitalizing the historic Mwerasandu tin mine in Ntungamo District. They employ modern mining techniques, including a processing plant that utilizes gravity-based methods for tin separation without chemical additives.

H5 Resources emphasizes its dedication to local employment, drawing staff from surrounding communities, including former artisanal miners who are now integrated into the operation with training opportunities. The company also ensures that processed tin concentrate is smelted into high-purity tin metal within Uganda before export, maximizing local value retention.

Igor Silberud, CEO and co-founder of H5 Resources, stated that environmental and community considerations were integral to the mine’s design from its inception. He noted, “We planned this mine to be responsible from the ground up, not to be made responsible later.” Silberud added that the award reinforces the company’s commitment to upholding its environmental and community standards.

The company operates under a Ugandan-licensed chain-of-custody system, aligned with international frameworks and OECD due-diligence guidance. These awards arrive as Uganda actively seeks to enhance the value derived from its mineral wealth and bolster responsible mining practices and local engagement.
