Tragedy struck Bugoye police station in Kasese district on Thursday morning when unknown assailants launched an attack, leaving one person dead.
The assailants, reportedly armed with machetes, raided the police facility in the pre-dawn hours, causing alarm and prompting a swift response from authorities.
Joshua Katunda, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kasese, confirmed the casualty and announced that four suspects have been apprehended. The identities of the arrested individuals are Irumba Simon, Abson Kiiza, George Kadama, and Lenaxi Baluku. It remains unclear if they are directly implicated in the attack or are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Katunda has appealed for calm among residents, assuring them that security agencies are diligently working to uncover the full circumstances of the attack and bring all perpetrators to justice. Additional police personnel have been deployed to bolster security and gather crucial information.
The attack has heightened tensions in the region, particularly given a spate of recent violent incidents that have led to fatalities and displacement of some residents. Local leaders are urging continued cooperation with security forces to restore peace and security in Bugoye and surrounding areas.
